Moses Lake, WA - Alice Shook, 86, passed on from her home in Moses Lake on Aug. 11. Following a valiant battle with cancer and lung and heart conditions, she died peacefully amid the love and affection of family and caregivers.

A long time Bitterroot resident, she was born April 1, 1924 at Swift Current, Sask., Canada, the daughter of Charles and Lila Bickner (Morgan). Alice came to the Bitterroot valley with her family around 1930. Alice attended Hamilton Elementary and High schools, after which, in 1940, she was wed to Clarence Edward Clyde from the Corvallis area. Within this marriage she gave birth to James Edward(1942) and Judith Ann(1944), who were later given the last name of Johnson. This marriage dissolved in 1944. In 1946 Alice wed Roy Johnson and gave birth to Marilyn June in 1947. During their 17 year marriage Alice and Roy owned and operated the Hamilton business of Johnson Electric.

Again, in 1965 she married Dee Shook of Hamilton. Together they were ‘snow birds' between Hamilton and Mesa AZ.

Alice came to love the desert and golfing and the life of the retirement communities. She and Dee were also married for 17 years, after which she became a permanent resident at the community of Apache Wells, Mesa, AZ. She was very happy there and that is where she requested to have her ashes scattered. Eventually the progression of macular degeneration made it necessary to live closer to family at Moses Lake WA. where her daughter Judy and son-in-law Charles Clark reside.

Alice absolutely loved to have a good time with her friends golfing, bowling bingo-ing and socializing. Wherever she lived she was growing ornamentals. Throughout her life she was a loving and supportive mother in many ways.

In her latter single years, Alice became accomplished at buying and selling Arizona properties, allowing her independence and success as she reached retirement.

Preceding her in death were her brothers Gordon and Floyd, and her beloved son James(1993) She is survived by sisters Lila Williams of Orange Park, FL and Irene Lomax of Seattle, WA, and brother Archie Bickner of Summerland, B.C., Canada. Also surviving are her daughter and son-in-law Judith and Charles Clark of Moses Lake and her daughter Marilyn Johnson of Hamilton, MT. Also there are seven grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and three step grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a yet to be decided time and place. Cremation is arranged through the Neptune Society of Spokane.

The family requests that no flowers be given. Donations in memory of Alice may be given to:
