Reader wants to follow the Constitution

I am writing as a concerned citizen. I hear talk about what is and is not Constitutional. What I find curious is most people do not know what the Constitution says. We complain about where our country is going and then turn around and vote the same lame, tired, arrogant and corrupt career politicians back into office.

Politicians quote the Declaration of Independence, claiming it is the Constitution. Politicians claim our rights come from the legislature, rather than God, as the Declaration of Independence states. Why? I think the answer is not hard to explain. It is essentially a two-fold problem from where I stand.

Problem number one is voters are lied to by some of the people running for office and a very misleading media on both sides. Issues are made to be divisive and unfair. They are made to be controversial and drive a wedge between people. I refer you to the words of speaker Nancy Pelosi on healthcare reform, "We have to pass it to see what's in it." Really? Remember, united we stand, divided we fall.

Second and more tragic is voter apathy. I think it is the duty of every voter to inform themselves on the candidates, petitions, and referendums. Voters have a moral obligation to their children and country to vote for the items and people who best represent the Constitution. Our country would be stronger, happier, more united and economically stable if the Constitution was followed.

I urge every voter to look at the candidates and their platforms, inform yourself and know what and who you are voting for. We can return to the Constitution as our founding fathers foresaw or continue down the road to socialism and communism. I say the divinely inspired Constitution is the only path. What say you?
