FEDERAL GOVERNMENT

Reader upset about earmarks bill

Our U.S. Senate recently voted on a bill to instate a one year moratorium on earmarks. It was not passed and the American public was left holding the bag on billions of dollars of additional deficit spending by our politicians. I called Senator Murray's office to question why, considering the financial state the U.S. government finds itself in, she would not take the one measure that common sense would dictate. The answer was distressingly insightful into the state of our political affairs. I was told that Patty feels it's her Duty to bring home federal dollars (pork), even if China is backing her fiscal irresponsibility.

This is the type of attitude that must be expunged from the voter's mentality if we expect to survive. Politicians must not be allowed to use taxpayer dollars to buy our votes, and the votes of zero liability voters. Until we understand that the government does not create wealth, but merely consumes it in a less efficient manner than the private sector uses it, we will forever be in a cycle of higher taxes, until there is no longer enough taxpayers to support the tax liabilities created. If you think the status quo is working and the U.S. will somehow continue to be a prosperous, wealthy nation, then vote for Patty Murray who claims her job is pork getter, which is pathetic in every sense, or vote for someone who will pledge to cut spending and reduce the deficit to ensure our future will not be burdened by dollars owed to foreign governments who do not have our interests at heart and who could on a whim, bring this nation down. This is not a Democrat vs. Republican issue, it is common sense versus blatant irresponsibility.
