Big 9 dual a struggle for Chiefs teams

WALLA WALLA — The Moses Lake boys and girls track teams travelled to battle it out with Kamiakin, Eisenhower, and Walla Walla in a Big 9 Dual meet and both wish they could have come away with better results.

The boys team dropped decisions to Eisenhower (116-34), Kamiakin (104-41), and Walla Walla (118-32).

On the girls’ side the Chiefs were beaten 82-63 by Eisenhower, 94-46 by Kamiakin, and dropped a 115-30 decision to Walla Walla.

Mitchell Hill recorded the best individual results, finishing first in the triple jump (42’7.5”) and second in the long jump (20’1”).

Hill’s triple jump performance aided a team sweep in the event as Dylan Moberg took second (41’9”) and Jordan Wilks (41’3”) captured third.

Randy Koon took third in the long jump with a 18’7.25”.

The 4x100 relay team of Hill, Moberg, Wilks, and Koon took second with a 44.52.

Other top five finishes include Wilks (javelin, third, 149’10”), Brian Chamberlain (400-meters, fourth, 54.38 and pole vault, fifth, 11’6”), Koon (100-meters, fourth, 11.86), Moberg (200-meters, fifth, 23.97), Ricardo Gamez (400-meters, fifth, 55.20), and the 4x100-meter relay team of Steven Cline, Jordan Koon, Gamez, and Chamberlain (fifth, 47.20).

Moses Lake’s Jordan Loera took first in the girls’ triple jump (34’11.5”), and second in the long jump (16’2”).

Sadie Nielsen captured second in the discus (112’2”), while the 4x200-meter relay team of London Cleverly, Tiffany Morris, Liza Bruneel, and Loera took third (1:52.28).

The 4x100-meter relay team of Taylor Ballard, Jennifer Hassan, Bruneel, Cleverly finished fourth (55.74), and fifth place finishes were recorded by Magie Munoz (800-meters, 2:30.54 and long jump, 15’4.5”), and Morris (300-meter-hurdles, 53.35).

Moses Lake track will host their next meet next Thursday when they play host Kennewick, Hanford, and West Valley.

The meet — for both the girls and boys teams — begins at 3:30 p.m.

The Big 9 District meet will take place the following week, beginning on Friday, May. 14.
