Gary LaMont Lybbert
Gary LaMont Lybbert age 56 passed away of a massive heart attack while vacationing at the Grand Canyon on April 26, 2010.
Gary worked and resided in Albuquerque, New Mexico with his wife, Patricia Novak. Gary was born December 24, 1953 in Moses Lake, Washington. He was the oldest child of Kay Lamont and Norma Elaine (Ostler) Lybbert. Gary graduated from Jenkins High School in Chewelah, Washington in 1972.
Gary received his Associates Degree from Spokane Falls Community College and worked as a cardiovascular technologist. He was on the team that performed the first artificial heart transplant. He designed and supervised the construction of multiple cardiac catheterization labs around the country. He was renowned for his expertise, knowledge, and kindness in his professional community.
Gary was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, and uncle. Gary loved to entertain others with his quick wit and sense of humor. He was known for his selfless service, kindness, and sensitivity. He overcame tremendous obstacles in his life and remained the optimist. He loved history, golf, being outdoors, and his family.
Gary is survived by his wife, Patricia Novak, Albuquerque, NM; his parents, Kay and Norma Lybbert, Warden, WA; his sons Kevin, Michael, and Matthew Lybbert; siblings, Alane Watkins, Otis Orchards, WA; Fred Lybbert, Chandler, AZ; Carol Jean Turley, Twin Falls, ID; Janene Jensen, Colville, WA; Emily Hansen, Riverton, UT. He also was step-father to Drew & Jennifer Mahan, Houston, TX; and Dusty Mahan, Panama City, FL. Grandchildren included Abigail and Lillian Mahan. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jonathan Michael Lybbert and his daughter, Melissa Lybbert.
Memorial service in honor of Gary will be held in Albuquerque, NM. There will be a viewing on Friday, April 30 from 5-7pm at the Kayser Chapel of Memories in Moses Lake. Funeral services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Warden Chapel on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at 10:00 am. Family viewing will precede the funeral services at 9:00am.
