More host families needed for Japanese agriculture trainees

| April 27, 2010 9:00 PM

MOSES LAKE — Big Bend Community College needs families to host Japanese Agricultural trainees.

The 37 trainees came to Big Bend’s campus in March to learn about agriculture and American culture. The students are enrolled in a Japanese Agricultural Training Program (JATP), which teaches them about United States technology and farming methods.

Big Bend administrators want the students to stay with host families so the students can practice English and learn about American traditions firsthand. Families are encouraged to take the trainees on outings such as sightseeing, bowling, swimming or out to dinner.

There is no fee for hosting a trainee. The only requirement is for the host families to provide meals and transport the students to and from dormitory.

To host a trainee, call Amy Dana at 509-793-2297 or e-mail Dana at amyd@bigbend.edu.
