MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake Fire Department responded to a fire at an apartment on South Division Street Thursday night.

Somehow a pile of clothes caught fire in a bedroom, Fire Chief Tom Taylor said Friday. The cause is undetermined and under investigation.

He explained the firefighters responded quickly and were able to contain the fire to the clothes and some surrounding furniture.

Heat and smoke damage was minimal, Taylor added.

There were no injuries as no one was home.

During the fire, firefighters removed a small cat from the apartment and left it with a neighbor for safekeeping, he said. The neighbor returned it to the owner afterward.

Firefighters remained at the scene for about two hours to ensure there were no extensions of the fire in the apartment.
