Tomorrow is the big day. The general lowland-lakes fishing

season opens. The big action will be at Warden, Blue, Park and a

smattering of other lakes in the Sun Lake State Park area.

If you don’t fish, but are in the mood for a daytrip, consider driving to the state park for a look at all of the anglers. Highway 17 should be lined bumper to bumper with recreation vehicles of all types, plus a few tents along the west side of Blue Lake.
Both Blue and Park should be covered with fishing boats. Some years there are so many boats, it appears possible to cross the lake by stepping from one boat to another.
We try to make the trip each year to see the spectacle and take photos. Take a lunch and eat it at either the state park or Deep Lake.
We recommend either Park or Blue lakes if you want to fish. There should be plenty of bank-fishing opportunities. The dock at Park Lake can be crowded at times on the opening weekend, but when one angler catches a limit and leaves, there is room for another person.
Deep Lake has several angling spots for bank fishing. Camping is not allowed, so there should be open areas for fishing.
Warden Lake will be crowded also. There are a few places to fish from shore, but we would rather fish it from a boat.
