MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake Golf Club is adding about 100 yards of golfing on its current property and expects the work to be completed sometime this year.

The expanded area is located at the entryway of the 18-hole golf course and Pillar Rock Grill, along Road 2 Northwest.

The golf course was originally built in two stages, said John Johansen, the Moses Lake Golf Club’s ground superintendent.

One portion was built in the 1950s and the other nine holes were added in the early 1960s, he said.

“Certainly, it’s the most major construction project that’s happened here in long time,” he commented.

Finish work was being done on the course Wednesday and there are plans to sod the new hole in a week.

“We would like to be done at some point this year,” he said.

The improvements transform the area from a “very challenging Par 4” to a “challenging Par 5,” he said.

“It’s just one stroke longer,” Johansen commented.

The additional golfing space will provide an even par on both sides, he said.

He described the land being improved as formerly as “wasty, weedy area without much going on.”

His friend, Randy Ray, of Florida, shaped the basic features of the course.

The area was flat, but material was brought in to shape the land.

Irrigation was also added, as the existing course is also irrigated.
