Evelyn Jane Miller quietly passed away at noon on Good Friday, 8 years after the death of her beloved husband of 63 years, George Eugene Miller.

Evelyn was born on July 10th, 1917, in Maywood, Illinois to Edward Francis and Alishia (O’Malley) Penrose. The second of five children, she graduated from Proviso High School in 1935, and worked as a switchboard operator for several years. On October 8, 1938, she married her brother’s childhood friend. After 2 years of traveling, for his job as a potato buyer, in Minnesota, Louisiana and Alabama they settled in Scottsbluff, Nebraska where they raised their 2 children, Jerry and Dee. She devoted her time to family, enjoyed bridge with friends and volunteer work at St. Agnes Catholic Church. In 1962 they made their home in Moses Lake, spending many winters in Sun City, Arizona and several months each year traveling with friends and visiting family in Chicago and Alaska. Evelyn was a long time member of the Moses Lake Golf and Country Club, many bridge groups and an active member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church as a teacher and wedding coordinator, among other things. She was an avid athlete, particularly enjoying ice skating and golf. An elegant hostess, she loved entertaining, although found her greatest joy as a wife, mother and grandmother. In later years she greatly appreciated the frequent visits from faithful friends, especially Kay Hendrix, who was like a daughter to her, Helen Theis, who spoiled her with homemade soups and applesauce, Monsignor Skehan and friends who came weekly to pray with her. Evelyn is survived by a son, Jerry (Judy), of Anchorage, Alaska; daughter Dee (Charles) Schwab, of Moses Lake and sister (Sr. Edward Alishia), a Sister of St. Joseph in Chicago, Illinois, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 3 brothers: Edward, Frank and John. The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Graham and the many wonderful caregivers and friends for their faithful support. A Rosary in her honor will be at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 23 and Mass of Christian Burial, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 24, both at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Arrangements are in care of Kayser’s Chapel & Crematory. Please sign the book or leave a note for the family at www.kayserschapel.com. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Catholic church for beautification of the columbarium prayer garden.
