Moses Lake 20-16

Davis 0-0

MOSES LAKE — Welcome back, nice to see you.

That’s how the Moses Lake softball team must have felt like after a string of three straight doubleheader splits finally came to an end Friday against Davis.

And how.

Moses Lake’s superior physical advantage was put on display as the Chiefs recorded their first sweep in a few weeks behind two five-inning wins, 20-0 and 16-0.

Moses Lake scored 14 runs in the first inning on the day and the tone was set for what would be a long visit for Davis.

The Chiefs (7-5, 3-1) had 26 hits and no errors while the pitching staff held Davis to one hit.

Haylie VanLaethem finished off a perfect 4-for-4 day with two doubles, an three RBI, Candace Vela finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored, a triple, and three RBIs, Bailey Richie completed a 3-for-4 day with a double and two RBI, Lacey Padilla went 2-for-3 with a double and four RBI, Holly Perry went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI, while Katie Martinez went 3-for-3 and Kylie Martinez ended up 2-for-2.

Karly Stoltman recorded the win at the mound, with four-innings of one-hit ball, including 11 strikeouts.

Moses Lake registered 18 hits in the nightcap while Davis was held to a combined no-hits by Chiefs pitchers, starter Taylor Richardson and closer VanLaethem.

Vela led the offense with a 3-for-4 outing which included two triples and five RBI.

East Valley 20-15

Ephrata 3-1

EPHRATA — East Valley asserted its dominance in a 20-3, 15-1 sweep of a Central Washington Athletic Conference (CWAC) doubleheader on Saturday.

Both games ended in five innings.

Heidi Buchert went 2-for-2 for Ephrata while Sarah McMartin’s only hit was a home run in the opener.

Kayla Brissey, Skylar Lund, Kristina Allen and Chelsey Hubbard all added a single apiece.

East Valley scored 13 runs in the first two innings to set the tempo for the big win.

East Valley wrapped up the sweep with five runs in the second and fourth innings of the nightcap while Ephrata’s lone run came in the fourth inning.

Lund had a triple and a single, while McMartin and Vela each had a single.

“We had several errors in both games that led to the losses,” Ephrata coach JoElle Malone said. “We need to read the batters better and anticipate more plays if we want to be successful defensively.”

ACH 11-11

Liberty 2-3

COULEE CITY — Two resounding wins were just what the coaches ordered for the Almira/Coulee-Hartline Lady Warriors squad.

Still trying to work their way into top form, ACH (4-2) took both games in a 11-2, 11-3 doubleheader sweep of Liberty on Saturday.

Sarah Gloyn pitched for the win in the opener while Nikki Osborne recorded two triples.

The Lady Warriors recorded 24 stolen bases as they jumped out to an early 7-0 lead and rolled from there.

In the second game, Madeline Isaak pitched for her second win against no losses while Jordan Jones added a double and triple at the plate while Miranda Porterfield added a double.

ACH used a five-run fourth inning to pull away.

“The girls had a good day offensively and defensively,” ACH coach Nicole Evans said. “This is the first game we have had everyone healthy and eligible with enough practices. We are still working out some kinks, but for the third doubleheader of the season, these girls are playing great.”

Othello 3-8

Ellensburg 0-7

ELLENSBURG — Ellensburg had been one of the big kids on the CWAC block but Othello (10-0, 8-0) came into town Saturday and sat their hosts in the corner.

Othello’s Lady Huskies recorded a 3-0 and 8-7 sweep to continue their strong play this season.

Eden Garza pitched a shut out victory in the first games as Othello scored their runs in the second and third innings and held on from there.

Despite being outhit 16-4 in the nightcap, Othello took advantage of five Bulldogs’ errors to come back from a 6-3 deficit.
