Wilson Creek girl’s basketball had a unique situation this high school season. The head coach (that would be me) knew very little about coaching basketball.

I turned to Bob Trammell to help me figure out this game. Bob is retired and had taught and coached in the Warden School District for nearly 40 years. I was just hoping to tap into Bob’s knowledge of the game. My best dream would be to have Bob coaching on the sidelines with us. I knew that was a long shot because Bob has health issues.

I met with Bob several times and was excited when Bob said he would help coach. At this time we were also joined by Steve Jachetta and Jenny Kimble. Bob and Steve would drive to Wilson Creek everyday for practice. This was a distance of about 80 miles round trip for every practice or home game.

These three wonderful people became my “associate” coaches. Bob essentially became our head coach during the season. He taught me and the players much about life and the game of basketball. In the span of one season Bob coached this young team (six of 10 players were sophomores or younger) to Wilson Creek’s first ever state appearance for a girl’s basketball team.

Wilson Creek had a wonderful season in basketball. It was a season that was never easy, but thanks to three dedicated, volunteer coaches and a great group of girls it became a season to remember. Special thanks to Bob Trammell for his relentless positive coaching during the season. Bob would never dwell on the negatives. He would always look to what could be changed to the positive.

I appreciate Bob very much. Through his leadership the team and community of Wilson Creek have been touched in a very positive way.
