MOSES LAKE — The Engell Family is performing Bluegrass songs at the George Community Hall Saturday.

The event is part of the hall’s CoffeeHouse Concert Series, bringing in different musicians every month for five years. The family band is performing two sets for about an hour each.

“We love this family,” said Debby Kooy, George Community Hall’s facility and events manager. “There are seven children in the family and all the children have grown up in a very musical family. Two of the children have grown up and gone away, but the remaining family members are very talented and focused.”

The Engells performed in George a few times and are growing in popularity around the Columbia Basin area, Kooy said.

“They all play different instruments and are a ton of fun to watch,” Kooy said. “They have such a good stage presence.”

The family writes their own music and performs old favorites as well. All songs are family friendly.

“These events are great to have for the community because people love to come and catch up with their neighbors,” Kooy said. “It’s a fun evening for everyone and a cheap date for couples wanting to have a night out.”

Cost is $3 per person and free for children 12 years old and under. There is a hat-pass occurring during intermission for those wanting to donate funds to the musicians.

“We encourage people to give at least $8 or $10 to support our musicians,” Kooy said. “We like to compensate them for all their hard work and at least be able to give them travel expenses.”

Doors open for seating at 6:30 p.m. and the concert starts at 7 p.m.

“We expect to have a good crowd,” Kooy said.

Kooy believes the concert series is essential for Columbia Basin residents.

“It’s very healthy for the community to be able to be exposed to different forms of music, cultures and trends,” Kooy said. “This is a live music venue and not too many places in the Columbia Basin offer live music. We love to look for and bring in performers that are new and different.”

George Community Hall is located at 403 W. Montmorency Blvd. in Quincy.
