Warden girl dies in accident

| April 6, 2010 9:00 PM

WARDEN — An 11-year-old Warden girl was killed in an ATV accident Sunday afternoon.

Shelby Roden was pronounced dead at the scene, Grant County Chief Deputy Courtney Conklin said.

The girl was traveling westbound on Road 4.5 Southeast near Warden on a Polaris Ranger 500, he said. The roadway is gravel. It appears she traveled off the roadway and over corrected causing the four-wheel ATV to roll.

She was thrown when the vehicle rolled, Conklin explained. Her passenger, another 11-year-old Warden girl, received minor scratches on her leg.

It did not appear Roden was wearing a helmet or a seat belt, he said.

Grant County Fire District 4 and 5 responded to the accident.

The Grant County Coroner took possession of the girl’s body to perform an autopsy to determine her cause of death.
