John Floyd Smith
John Floyd Smith went to be with God and the angels September 7, 2009.
He was born September 3, 1955 in Omak, Washington. He went to school and graduated from Ephrata High school in 1973. He also received a business degree from Big Bend Community College. He got his first job at the age of 15 working for Western Auto and Paulson’s Bike Shop. Then down the road he worked for Trout Lodge hauling fish. He and his great friend Duane Taylor opened a gas station together a short time later. He then went on to work for Les Morton Tires in Ephrata and worked there till he injured himself doing what he loved. His passions were helping people, Riding his Harley and drag racing.
He married Cindi Fread June 20, 1981, and raised five great children together.
In 2000, he was diagnosed with cancer. He had a huge operation in 2001 and underwent treatment time after time. He was told on many occasions that he had a short time to live and every time he surpassed it. The only thing that kept him going was that he kept saying “I have too much to do.” His oncologist called him a walking miracle, the way he kept going. He had the willpower to live and he surprised everyone. He no longer feels pain and can rest now.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Don (Pappy) and Viola Smith of Napa, Calif., Ralf (Granddad) and Betty (Granny) Wilson of Omak, Wash., granddaughter Brittany Smith of Soap Lake, mother in-law Jeanette Fread and father-in-law Chuck Fread of Soap Lake.
He is survived by his wife Cindi Smith of Soap Lake and their children Chastity (Jenny) Smith of Moses Lake, Andy Smith of Orange Count, Calif., Sarah and Brian Kolar of Kent, Wash., and Bethany and Matthew Smith of Soap Lake, his parents Floyd (Smitty) and Betty Smith of Ephrata, and his sisters Jodi Smith of Wenatchee and Dani and Mike Brennan of Issaquah, Wash. He has two nieces Shawna and Morgan and eight grandchildren Cynthia, Izek, Angelina, Carley, Katrina, Arron and Jarrod.
A special thanks to his long time friend and care giver Rex Wallschlaeger.
