Quincy woman dies in collision

GEORGE — Maria I.J. Reyes, 37, Quincy, died in a two-vehicle collision on state Route 283, four miles northeast of George Wednesday afternoon.

Reyes was traveling northbound on Adams Road in a 1988 Chevrolet Celebrity, the Washington State Patrol reported. She was approaching the intersection with SR-283 and reportedly failed to stop at a posted stop sign.

As she entered the highway, she collided with a southbound 2005 International 4300 box van.

David A. Brown, 38, Yakima, Wash., was the driver of the box van.

He was not injured.

Reyes sustained several cuts, bruises and fractures, the state patrol reported. She died at the scene.

The cause of the accident was allegedly due to Reyes failing to stop at the stop sign, the state patrol advised. No citations were issued.

The Chevrolet Celebrity was totaled and towed from the scene.

The International 4300 box van sustained $10,000 in damage and was towed from the scene.
