SWINE FLU SHOTS

| October 22, 2009 9:00 PM

After reading the article entitled “Military to get mandatory swine flu shots soon,” I was perplexed. How can it be that, while living in a society where we celebrate personal freedom, that our brave servicemen are forced to expose themselves to a new vaccine where little testing has been done?

What about the long term effects that are yet to be published? Should we expect our military, the brave souls dedicated to protecting our freedom, be stripped of their freedom in order to be a part of an experiment to see if a vaccine really works?

We already know that the flu vaccine contains toxic metals such as aluminum and mercury and harmful preservatives such as formaldehyde (a known cancer-causing agent) and ethylene glycol (antifreeze), and some of us are willing to take the risks of injecting ourselves with these substances instead of actually contracting the virus; however, under no circumstances should any individual, an American individual, be forced to receive a vaccine that contains harmful substances.

The military and all health care professionals should be stressing the importance of good health and protecting oneself through exercise, nutrition and hygiene. It is a well-known fact that viruses enter the body by way of hands, nose and throat. Instead of being terrified of contracting the H1N1 virus and blindly accepting a vaccine that is dangerous and may not actually prevent one from getting sick, let us focus on building our bodies up and taking extra care to protect ourselves and our families through better nutrition and hygiene. Let us re-teach our kids and remind adults to wash our hands before eating and after coming home from school or work. Lets promote healthy living overall by implementing healthy food choices in every meal. And lets exercise to help our bodies respond faster and function better. That is what the government should be promoting for all Americans.
