EPHRATA — Ephrata fell behind 21-0 in the first quarter and couldn’t recover late as Grandview rolled to a 49-14 victory.

Ephrata fell behind early in the first when Isaac Alaniz scored on a two-yard touchdown run to give Grandview a 7-0 lead and the Greyhounds led 28-0 at halftime.

Grandview took a 35-0 lead early in the third quarter when Jacob Massey scored on an eight-yard touchdown run.

After Grandview’s touchdown, the Tigers managed to break up the shut out when Travis Flint scored on 31-yard touchdown run to help Ephrata pull within 35-7 of the Greyhounds.

Ephrata head coach Jay Mills said Flint is a tough running back to bring down.

“He is a big back and he is bigger and stronger than a couple of our linemen,” he said. “He runs so well that we run him at running back.”

Flint added another touchdown in the third when he scored on an 80-yard run to help cut the deficit to 42-14.

While Flint broke free for the long touchdown run, the Tigers wouldn’t reach the end zone again and Grandview held on for a 49-14 victory.

Although Ephrata has struggled on the field this season, Mills said he is proud of his team.

“We are so young at so many spots,” he said. “We are getting a decent effort from the kids.”

The Tigers are inexperienced this season and Mills said his team continues to fight every day.

“We are playing with a bunch of sophomores,” he said. “We are struggling to find our way. We keep playing as hard we can. They have showed a lot of courage.”

Flint ran 17 times for 146 yards Friday night.

Othello 28, East Valley

OTHELLO — Othello broke open a 7-0 game with three scores in the second quarter and the Huskies stayed perfect in Central Washington Athletic Conference play with a 28-0 win over the East Valley Red Devils.

Othello senior quarterback Jeremy Cerrillo threw a nine-yard touchdown pass to DJ Cantu in the first quarter to give the Huskies a 7-0 lead.

With Othello leading 7-0 in the second quarter, Cerrillo scored on a six-yard touchdown run to give the Huskies a 14-0 lead.

Devon Lind scored on a 13-yard touchdown run and David Charles scored on a 13-yard touchdown run to cap the scoring for the Huskies and Othello rolled past East Valley to improve to 5-1 overall.

Quincy 23, Wapato 20

WAPATO, Wash. — Quincy trailed late Friday night against the Wapato Wolves, but running back Breck Webley scored on a one-yard touchdown run to lift the Jackrabbits to the 23-20 victory.

Wapato opened the scoring when Cody Nickoloff scored on a 35-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.

Quincy responded with a safety and a seven-yard touchdown pass from Jackson Hodges to Trevor Hyer to give the Jackrabbits their first lead of the contest.

Wapato stormed back when Nickoloff intercepted a pass from Hodges and returned it 80 yards for a score.

Friday’s game continued to go back and forth before the Jackrabbits took the lead for good when Webley scored to give the Jackrabbits a 23-20 victory, their first conference win of the season.
