MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake Parks and Recreation Department will host a pair of athletic events this afternoon at the Moses Lake High School soccer fields between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.

The two events are the Soccer Challenge and the Punt, Pass and Kick Competition. Both athletic events are free and available to youth in the Columbia Basin.

Punt, Pass and Kick: The Punt, Pass and Kick competition is open to boys and girls between 5 and 15 years of age and ages for competitors will be determined as of Dec. 31, 2009.

Competitors will compete in different divisions divided by age group and each participant will receive one attempt to punt, pass and kick a football for distance and accuracy.

Trophies will be awarded for first, second and third places in each division. Trophies will be presented during halftime when the Moses Lake Chiefs host the Sunnyside Grizzlies at Lions Field on Oct. 23.

Participants who finish first, second, or third during the competition will receive free admission to the game.

Participants will not be allowed to wear cleats during the Punt, Pass and Kick competition.

Soccer Challenge: Registration for the Soccer Challenge open to boys and girls 14 years old or younger and competitor ages will be determined as of Dec. 31, 2009.

Each contestant will compete in shooting accuracy, dribbling, throw in and distance kicking events.

Trophies and ribbons will be awarded to participants who finish in first, second, or third in each division and awards will be presented during halftime when Moses Lake hosts Richland at Lions Field on Oct. 20.

Participants who finish in first or second place in their respective age group will have the opportunity to advance to the state competition.
