Reward offered for BB gun shooter
MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake Police Department offers a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest of those involved with shooting windows with BB guns.
Seven incidents involving someone shooting at business and vehicle windows were reported Monday.
Police Chief Dean Mitchell offered the reward after 15 incidents were reported on Oct. 2.
“We are encouraging the public to report any suspicious activities, specifically in residential areas,” he stated. “The police department will continue to increase patrols until those responsible are taken into custody, however, we need the public’s help.”
The vandalism primarily effects businesses and vehicles although some residential windows were shot at in previous incidents over the past few months, police Capt. Dave Ruffin said.
“People are randomly driving around targeting vehicles,” he said.
It appears the incidents are happening in the evening, he added. There is a possibility the incidents are connected when several incidents are reported in one day.
Ruffin advises citizens to park their vehicles in a garage if they are able and to park their vehicles off the street, and as close to their homes as possible.
He said the police department needs the public’s help to stop the crime. He asks citizens to report suspicious vehicles in their area, especially at night so police can contact the suspect.
The 15 incidents reported Oct. 2, were reported in the Mount Lake residential area and the downtown Moses Lake area, Mitchell advised.
The seven incidents reported Monday involved a vehicle on South Monroe Street, a glass entry door at Furniture West, a glass entry door at a business on West Third Avenue, a glass entry door to a business on East Broadway Avenue, a front window to a business on South Ash Street, a vehicle on South Leanne Avenue and a business window on West Broadway Avenue.
