High school athletes earn post season recognition
MOSES LAKE — In high school sports, each student athlete is a treasured and finding a great one is comparable to finding a gem.
Local 1A, 2B, and 1B schools were able to find enough of those valuable players, to not only aid in their sports successes, but to see them earn post season accolades.
ROYAL
The Knights’ football team led the way in post season awards as 13 players were named to one of the South Central Athletic Conference (SCAC) All League teams.
First-team All League honors went to Ernie Garza (defensive line and offensive line), Dylan Delay (linebacker), and Ben Singer (receiver).
Players earning second team recognition were, Shaq Ledezma (defensive back), Aldeberto Edeza Jr. (defensive line), Justin Kincade Sr. (defensive line), Kris Rice (linebacker), Frank Leitz (offensive line), and Marc Albertson (quarterback).
Honorable mention notice went to, Will Christensen (linebacker and running back), Jeremy Edwards (defensive back and running back), Alex Ramirez (defensive back), Jake Bartlett (offensive line) and Ledezma (kicker).
The best volleyball team in recent Royal history received plenty of notice.
Page Woodward was named first team middle outside hitter/setter, while earning SCAC player of the year honors.
Also on the first team were Caitlin Paysse (middle hitter), and Leslie Brown (setter).
Lacy Goroski was second team middle hitter and Maggie Leal was an honorable mention outside hitter.
Royal’s Ashley Roberts earned the Coach of the Year award.
Ben Orth was also named Coach of the Year, albeit as Royal’s cross country coach.
Ethan Tonnemaker, Roy Angle, and Juan Jimenez were named first-team All-league, while Jesus Peraza was named second team and Ryan Lefler received honorable mentions.
Ana Delos Santos was named to the second team, while Helen Floren was given honorable mention for the girls’ team.
Soccer players Glady Meza and Monica Gonzalez were named second team defenders and Macey Stakkeland was given an honorable mention recognition by the SCAC for her play in the midfield.
WARDEN
Six Cougars from three sports enjoyed enough season success during their respective sports to earn post season honors.
In football, Nate Stott was named second team offensive lineman and honorable mention linebacker in the SCAC while teammates Nathan Brown (second team defensive back, honorable mention wide receiver) and Arturo Reyes (honorable mention defensive back and punter) joined him in making the All-league team.
The SCAC also named girls’ soccer players Leslie Estrada and Taylor Edsobn honorable mention as midfielders.
Kacey Kisler was the lone representative from the volleyball team, earning second team All-SCAC honors.
SOAP LAKE
Not only did the Eagles earn the team sportsmanship award in volleyball for the Central Washington 2B league, but some of its players also caught the coaches’ eye to earn post season honors.
Brittany Ellsworth earned a second team spot while Samantha Marthini was given an honorable mention.
Quarterback Kyler Moats and tight end Heath Owens both made All-league second team along with Zach Allen and Cody Foster who were honorable mention selections,
ALMIRA-COULEE/HARTLINE
The Warriors enjoyed a successful fall season with their volleyball team finishing sixth at the Class 1B state finals and the football squad making it to the quarterfinals.
The Bi-County 1B All-Opponent Volleyball team including Warriors, Nikki Osborne, named Most Valuable Player of the league, and teammates Sarah Gloyn, and Madeline Isaak.
WILSON CREEK
The Devils’ Jacob Treat, playing for the Soap Lake football team, earned honorable mention honors at tight end on the Central Washington 2B All League squad.
