Lawrence Adrian Berner

Memorial services for Lawrence Adrian Berner, 84, of Moses Lake, formerly of Othello, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 21, 2009 at Sacred Heart Parish in Othello with Father Kevin Codd officiating the mass.

Born February 16, 1925 in Rockford, Wash. to late Peter and Anna (Fleckenstein) Berner, he passed away Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake.

Lawrence grew up in Rockford and graduated from Rockford High School in 1943. Upon graduation he served in the US Armed Forces from August 21, 1944 to July 31, 1946.

Lawrence and Anita Zarandin were married July 3, 1977 in the Mandurriao Catholic Church in Iloilo City, Philippines.

Lawrence dedicated his later years to his love of music and spent many years playing his accordion with family and friends. Lawrence was a member of the American Legion Post 165 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He also served as the District 11 Chairman for the Washington Old Time Fiddlers Association.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Stephan, Leo, Joseph, Marcellus and Medard and his sister, Gertrude (Mattausch). Lawrence is survived by his wife, Anita of Moses Lake, twin daughters Marlene of New York City and Darlene of Santa Cruz, Ca., daughters Diane (Engberson) of Boise, Id. and Therese (Gomez) of Spokane, son Steve of Monroe, Wash., brother Conrad of Spokane, sister Marie (Normington) of Pendleton, Ore., 8 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

A rosary will take place on Friday, November 20 at 6 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Parish. The family will receive friends for a viewing on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. until the time of services at the church. A reception will follow. A separate burial service will take place at Rockford Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are in care of Benson Family Funeral Service, Moses Lake.
