Abelino Fuentes Rodriguez

Abelino Fuentes Rodriguez, 89, of Othello, died Friday November 13, 2009 at Othello Community Hospital.

Abelino was born in El Moral, Coah., Mexico on April 1, 1920, to Enrique and Elena Fuentes) Rodriguez. As he grew he worked the family farm in El Moral. He married Consuelo Galindo in El Moral on August 31, 1940. After Abelino’s father died he entered the El Brazero program and entered the U.S. to find work. He worked in Texas for several years, returning to his hometown and his family as often as he could. In 1959 he moved to Othello with 2 other friends and found employment in the newly irrigated basin. In 1962 Abelino was reunited with his wife and children after 15 years. He retired at the age of 60 from Peterson’s farms for health reasons.

Abelino loved to garden, roses were a favorite as well as growing vegetables to eat and share. He was very proud of starting walnut trees from seed and planting them in his families yards. Abelino’s favorite time of year was Christmas. He always began decorating inside and outside the house early in the season and enjoyed it until after Christmas was over. When he was no longer able to decorate himself he would oversee his grandson as they did the work for him.

Abelino is preceded in death by his parents, all of his brothers and sisters and two daughters Alicia and Elena. He is survived by His children, Arturo (Dora) Rodriguez of Eagle Pass, TX, Abelino (Connie) Rodriguez of Moses Lake and Araceli (Mario) Garcia of Othello, 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009 at Stevens Funeral Chapel beginning at 4 p.m. The Rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. at the chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 11 a.m., with burial to follow at Bess Hampton Memorial Gardens.
