Othello football begins playoff journey
OTHELLO — A strong running game and a propensity for high scoring performances will be called upon once again when the Othello Huskies begin their Class 2A state title bid against visiting Colville, Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Huskies (8-2) will hope to bounce back from their 23-14 loss last week to Ellensburg, which gave their rivals the 2A Central Washington District title.
It was also Othello’s only home loss of the season.
The Huskies feature a bevy of backs collaborating to aid an offense in out scoring opponents 354-106 on the year, including four games of more then 50 points.
Parker Davis (117 carries, 682 yards and six touchdowns), Matt Jensen (102 carries, 470 yards and five touchdowns), David Charles (64 carries, 458 yards and four touchdowns) and Caleb Garza (11 carries, 168 yards and three touchdowns), will team up with quarterback Jeremy Cerillo to combat the Colville defense.
Cerillo has been successful by air with 746 yards passing and 17 touchdowns with only two interceptions. On the ground he has 48 carries for 275 yards and six touchdowns for the Huskies.
When they go to the passing attack, Cerrillo’s favorite statistical targets are Chris Brunetti with 13 receptions for 326 yards and six touchdowns, and Devon Lind with 12 receptions for 246 yards and six touchdowns.
Lind has led the team on the defensive side of the ball with four interceptions while Matt Jordan has chipped in three.
Colville has been successful on the road with a 3-1 record, competing out of the 2A Great Northern League and have won three straight coming into Saturday’s contest.
