Runners compete at Spring Festival in Moses Lake

MOSES LAKE — Competitors from throughout Washington state congregated in Moses Lake over Memorial Day weekend to participate in the Spring Festival run.

Participants of all ages competed in the 10K run, 5K run, triathlon, and duathlon events over the weekend.

The event was promoted by Budu Racing and the Moses Lake Parks and Recreation Department, and sponsors for the weekend event included the Moses Lake Clinic, and Glass House Car and Dog Wash.

Competitors as young as 6 years old participated in the event.

Participants in the 5K event ventured down Division Street south to Nielsen before heading north on Pioneer before making their way down 5th Avenue. Participants in the 10K event made their way south before heading east along Yonezawa before making their way down Pioneer and down 5th.

Philip Paul of Kent, Wash., captured the 10K title, edging out Quincy’s John Heikkila and Moses Lake’s Brian Jacobson.

Moses Lake runners swept the top-four spots in the 5K run/walk when Dan Scott (first), David Chandler (second), Hayden Wise (third), and Nick Tripp (fourth) crossed the finish line.

Tanner Tennyson won the triathlon event when he beat Dean Vergillo by more than a minute and Dan Scott won the duathlon in 1:06:45.6. Scott was able to beat Tyler Wain (1:10:14.9) by nearly three and a half minutes.
