Series planning progresses, housing still needed

MOSES LAKE — Members of the Babe Ruth World Series Task Force assembled Wednesday night to discuss  planning for the 2009 baseball tournament to be held at Larson Playfield Aug. 15 to Aug. 22.

The 2009 16-18 Babe Ruth World Series is less than three months away and Babe Ruth World Series Tournament co-Director and Task Force Chairman Randy Boruff said participant housing is still a huge priority.

“We still need housing,” he said. “It is one of the three most important things you need to have to host a world series.”

Members of the Babe Ruth World Series Task Force still need approximately 14 homes to house out-of-town participants, said Housing co-Coordinator Eileen Martinez.

“We have a whole team placed in Othello,” she said. “We still need four homes in Ephrata and we need 10 more homes in Moses Lake.”

When Babe Ruth World Series planning began, Boruff said the task force needed to secure more than 80 homes. Boruff said the task force still needs housing volunteers.

“We are still shooting for 81 homes,” he said.

While housing is still an important aspect of hosting a world series, Boruff said the task force is excelling in other areas of preparation.

“When hosting a world series there are three very important things to take care of: housing, raising corporate sponsorship, and man-power,” he said. “We are in pretty good shape with man power with the task force, and the town has opened up their pocket for corporate sponsorship, but we still need more people to step up for housing.”
