Lady Tigers claim championship

PROSSER, Wash. — The Ephrata girls track team continued their perfect season Friday afternoon with a 55-point victory over Prosser to claim the Central Washington Athletic Conference district team title.

The Lady Tigers capitalized on strong, all-around performances to earn the victory, including taking first and second in the pole vault to hold back the Mustangs.

Ephrata had 15 athletes qualify in 10 events for this week’s Washington Interscholastic Activities Association 2A state track meet Thursday through Saturday at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma, Wash.

Othello’s Tiffany Martinez qualified for the state meet with a second-place finish in the discus and Christine Kirkwood earned a trip to the state meet with a district-winning performance in the Javelin.

Quincy’s Taylor Kunkel will represent the Jackrabbits in two events this week. Kunkel qualified in the long jump (third) and the triple jump (first.)

The top three placers in each event qualified for the state track meet.

South Central Athletic Conference District Track Results

Royal finishes sixth

GOLDENDALE, Wash. — The Lady Knights capitalized on a first-place finish from senior Cierra Miller in the 400 meters to help lift Royal to a sixth-place finish at the South Central Athletic Conference district track meet Friday.

Miller finished third in the 200 meters and helped the 4x400 relay team to second place, earning a trip to this week’s Washington Interscholastic Activities Association 1A state track meet Friday and Saturday at Eastern Washington University in Cheney, Wash. Royal’s Page Woodward, Jadyn Allred, Janae Anderson, and Miller ran the 4X400 in 4:30.77.

Anderson also earned a trip to state with a third-place leap in the triple jump.

The top four athletes in each event qualified for this week’s state meet.
