Ephrata boys cruise to title

PROSSER, Wash. — The Ephrata boys track team swept the long jump event at the Central Washington Athletic Conference district track meet Friday and the Tigers cruised past the Selah Vikings to claim the district team title.

Mike Mandeville (first), Tyrone Prescod (second), and Jerome Prescod (third) dominated the long jump, grabbing all three of the district’s state spots in the process, to help push the Tigers 190.5 points.

Ephrata qualified 24 athletes in 13 events for the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association 2A state track meet Thursday through Saturday at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma, Wash.

Ephrata’s Cody Mann qualified for the state meet in four events, as did Mike Mandeville. Mandeville finished first in three events, (300 hurdles, 110 hurdles and long jump) and second in another (4X100 relay) to help power the Tigers. Mann finished second in the 100 meters and third in the 200 meters. He was also a member of the 4X100 relay and 4X400 relay teams.

Quincy’s Luke Grigg finished second in the 300 hurdles and the 110 hurdles to help propel the Quincy Jackrabbits to fourth place.

Othello didn’t have an athlete qualify for state.

4A Regional Track Results

SPOKANE — Moses Lake senior Spencer Fackrell finished third in the triple jump Friday afternoon and junior Randy Koon finished second in the long jump as just two members of the Chiefs track team qualified for the state meet this week in Tacoma, Wash.

Koon finished second with a leap of 21-feet, 1-inch and Fackrell jumped 43-feet, 2.5 inches to earn  a trip to Tacoma’s Mount Tahoma High School. The top-3 placers in each event qualified.

South Central Athletic Conference District Track Results

GOLDENDALE, Wash — Royal senior Blair Collins qualified for Thursday and Friday’s state track meet in four events at the South Central Athletic Conference district track meet May 22 in Goldendale, Wash.

Collins cruised to a victory in the 100 meters, and won the long jump. He finished second in the triple jump and helped the Knights 4X100 relay team to a first-place finish to help the Knights to third place.

Sophomore Ethan Tonnemaker finished second in the 1,600 meters and the 3,200 meters and fellow sophomore Travis Villegas also qualified in two events — the 400 meters and the 200 meters.

The top-4 in each event qualified for the state meet Friday and Saturday at Eastern Washington University in Cheney, Wash.
