Body found floating in Quincy canal

QUINCY — A body of an unidentified adult male was found floating face down in an irrigation canal near Quincy Thursday afternoon.

The location of the body was in the area of Road 8 Southwest and Road S Northwest, said Grant County Undersheriff John Turley on Friday.

The man is only described as having long black hair.

“It’s just a big question mark at this point,” he said.

Little is known about the man’s identity. No missing person reports were filed that are similar to the man’s description, Turley said.

It’s unclear how the man got there and it’s unclear how he died. The body was badly deteriorated, he said. It is unknown if the man’s death was accidental or if it is suspicious.

The Grant County Coroner’s Office is performing an autopsy on the body this week.
