Red Devils knock off Jacks
YAKIMA, Wash. — After upsetting the Prosser Mustangs in nine innings Tuesday, the Quincy Jackrabbits couldn’t maintain their momentum heading into the district softball tournament against East Valley Thursday afternoon in Yakima, Wash.
East Valley jumped on the Jacks early and Quincy couldn’t recover as the Red Devils rolled to a 10-0 victory.
The Red Devils scored three runs in the bottom of the first and five more in the second to take an 8-0 lead early and Quincy head coach Bill Gonzales said it was hard for his team to recover.
“We were trying to catch up (and) with their pitcher (it’s) difficult,” he said. “Once she gets rolling, that is difficult to do.”
Despite allowing eight runs in the first two innings, Quincy settled down to allow just two more over the final four innings of play, Gonzales said.
“I think if we could throw out the first two innings, we did really well,” he said. “After (we) settled down, we played some good defense. Adrianna (Zamorron) pitched a heck of a game.”
Following Thursday’s loss to East Valley, the Jacks fell into the consolation bracket of the district tournament.
Quincy is scheduled to play the loser of Saturday’s Othello-Selah game at 1 p.m. Saturday in Selah, Wash.
