PROSSER, Wash. — The Quincy Jackrabbits rallied from an early 4-0 deficit at Prosser Tuesday night to advance to the quarterfinals of the Central Washington Athletic Conference district softball tournament with a 12-10 extra inning victory.

Quincy starting pitcher Adrianna Zamorron kept the Mustangs off balance all afternoon and the Jacks scored a pair of runs in the top of the ninth inning to eliminate the Mustangs.

Quincy head coach Bill Gonzales said Zamorron performed well in the pitching circle for the Jacks.

“Adrianna pitched a heck of a game,” he said.

“The Jacks fell behind 2-0 in the first inning and found themselves trailing 4-0 heading into the top of the fourth.

With the Jacks trailing, Gonzales said his team remained composed.

“We were patient at the plate and we played to a level we should have been playing at a while ago,” he said.

Quincy rallied for four runs in the fourth to pull even with Prosser and the Jacks added two more in the fifth and two in the sixth to take an 8-4 lead.

Prosser responded with a pair in the sixth and a pair in the seventh to pull even at 8-8, sending the game into extra innings.

The Jacks took a 10-8 lead in the eighth inning, but the Mustangs answered back to tie the game at 10-10, sending the loser-out contest into the ninth.

After the Mustangs managed to push the contest into the ninth inning, Zamorron was able to cross home plate for the go-ahead score and Quincy took a 12-10 lead into the bottom of the inning.

With her team’s season on the line, Zamorron settled down to keep the Mustangs scoreless and the Jacks kept their season alive with the 12-10 victory.

Gonzales said his team played well in the win.

“They played great,” he said. “We cut down on our mistakes and our errors.”

Zamorron led the Jacks at the plate, going 4-for-5 with three runs scored and Maggie Santos went 3-for-5 while scoring three runs of her own.

Quincy will travel to Yakima, Wash., Thursday afternoon where they will take on the East Valley Red Devils in the quarterfinals of the district tournament at 4 p.m.

Grandview 7, Ephrata 6

GRANDVIEW, Wash. — The Tigers fought to keep their softball season alive Tuesday afternoon against Grandview, but the Greyhounds capitalized on seven Ephrata errors to eliminate the Tigers with a 7-6 victory.

The Greyhounds raced to a 2-0 lead after the first inning before the Tigers clawed their way back in the top of the second to pull even at 2-2.

After the Tigers tied the contest in the top of the second, Ephrata struggled defensively in the bottom of the inning, Ephrata head coach Heather Wood said.

“Except for the second inning we played really well,” she said. “When you have six errors in one inning, it is tough to come back.”

Grandview capitalized on six Ephrata errors in the bottom of the second to take a 6-2 lead over Ephrata in their loser-out district tournament opener.

Although the Greyhounds managed to take a four-run lead, Wood said her team didn’t give up Tuesday.

“They came back and fought hard,” she said. “It just didn’t go our way this time.”

Ephrata responded with a run in the third and another in the fourth to pull within 6-4 before Grandview scored in the bottom of the fourth to push their advantage to 7-4.

Ephrata continued to claw their way back with a pair of runs in the sixth inning, but the early deficit and seven errors proved too much to overcome.

While Ephrata’s season ended Tuesday night, Wood was proud of the progress she saw her team make this season.

“They built some confidence along the way,” she said. “They learned that they can play hard.”
