Mustangs hold off Jackrabbits

PROSSER, Wash. — The third time wasn’t a charm for Quincy Tuesday night as Central Washington Athletic Conference (CWAC) rival Prosser defeated the Jacks for the third time this season.

Prosser eliminated Quincy from the 2A state playoffs with a 3-1 victory Tuesday.

Quincy battled with Prosser throughout Tuesday’s state tournament opener, but the Jacks couldn’t find a way to knock off the Mustangs.

The Quincy soccer team rallied during the final weeks of the season to qualify for their second straight trip to the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association 2A state soccer playoffs.

The Jacks were impressive down the stretch, ending regular-season champion Othello’s bid for a perfect season on April 30 with a 2-1 shoot-out victory.

Quincy played well during the season to earn the No. 3 seed heading into the district tournament.

After the Jacks knocked off Wapato May 9 in the district quarterfinals, the Jacks moved into the semifinals against second-seeded Prosser.

The Mustangs held off the Jacks 2-1, sending Quincy into a loser-out contest with Othello for the district’s final state playoff spot Saturday.

Quincy dominated the second half of Saturday’s game with Othello and earned a 3-1 victory and a trip to the state tournament.

Although Quincy rallied for their second straight playoff appearance, the Jacks couldn’t find an answer for district tournament champion Prosser and the Mustangs eliminated the Jacks from the postseason.

Quincy head soccer coach Tom Turner was unavailable for comment.
