OTHELLO — Columbia Basin Health Association was awarded recognition through the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Diabetes Physician Recognition Program (DPRP).

The diabetes program was developed by the NCQA in partnership with the American Diabetes Association to recognize physicians and health care facilities delivering high quality care to diabetes patients.

Physicians and health care facilities earning recognition from the DPRP have records of providing high quality diabetes care, according to John Buse of the American Diabetes Association.

“The list of recognized doctors is the first place you look if you or a loved one has been diagnosed with diabetes,” he stated.

The DPRP measurements cover areas including blood pressure control, eye examinations and smoking status and cessation advice or treatment.

Columbia Basin Health Association started its Diabetes Improvement Project in January.

“We have made significant progress since implementing this program in our clinics and now our medical staff is being recognized for the high quality of care they deliver,” stated CBHA Medical Director Dr. Hung Miu. “It is even more of an honor given our rural setting, as well as the economic, cultural and language barriers that many of our patients face when accessing care.”

Columbia Basin Health Association is a nonprofit organization that provides medical, dental and vision services. The health association serves at Othello Family Clinic and 14th Avenue Medical Center in Othello, Wahluke Family Clinic in Mattawa and Connell Family Dental Clinic in Connell.
