EPHRATA — The Othello boys and girls tennis teams sent a pair of doubles teams to the finals of the Central Washington Athletic Conference sub-district tournament Monday afternoon but the Huskies couldn’t bring home a champion.

Othello’s Sam Harris and Taylor Petersen went to the finals for the boys, and Jadee Roylance and Jesse Schmidt went to the finals for the girls.

Both of Othello’s doubles finalists squared off with Selah opponents, but  neither team could find a way to sink the Vikings.

Harris and Petersen battled in the first set of Monday’s final before falling 7-5. Harris and Petersen struggled in the second set before losing 6-1 to fall to the No. 2 seed heading into the district tournament.

Roylance and Schmidt fought with their Selah opponents for more than an hour Monday afternoon, but Selah held on for 6-4, 6-2 victories and Roylance and Schmidt took the No. 2 seed.

Quincy’s doubles team of Colleen Knodell and Bonnie Knodell rolled past their Selah opponents 7-5, 6-1 in the consolation finals to take the No. 3 seed heading into the district tournament.

In singles competition, Ephrata’s Tyler Van Heusden rebounded from his semifinal loss to Ellensburg’s Aaron Porter to knock off Quincy’s Blake Van Dyke 6-4, 6-0 in the consolation finals.

With the win over Van Dyke, Van Heusden claimed the No. 3 seed heading into the district tournament and Van Dyke fell to the No. 4 seed.

Ephrata got their second consolation winner in singles competition when Chloe Schmidt dominated Selah’s Renee Hausske 6-1, 6-0 to take the No. 3 seed in the girls singles bracket at districts.
