OTHELLO — The Quincy Jackrabbits wrapped up their second consecutive trip to the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) 2A boys soccer tournament by knocking off the Othello Huskies 3-1 on Saturday.

The Jacks knocked off the Central Washington Athletic Conference’s (CWAC) regular season champion Huskies for the CWAC’s third and final bid into the WIAA state playoffs.

The Huskies and the Jacks played to a 1-1 tie midway through the second half before Quincy’s Juan Romero sent a free kick into the back of the Othello net to give the Jacks a 2-1 advantage.

Romero’s goal put the Jacks ahead 2-1 and the Huskies were forced to play the remainder of the contest short-handed following an Othello red card.

With a man down late in the contest, the Huskies attempted to score the equalizer but Quincy’s Luis Sorto found the back of the net with less than a minute remaining to push the Jacks past Othello 3-1 and into the playoffs.

Following the win over Othello, Quincy qualified for the playoffs for the third time in the past four seasons. The Jacks will travel to Prosser, Wash., this afternoon to take on the Mustangs in the first round of the playoffs.

Quincy is 0-2 this season against Prosser, including a 2-1 loss at Prosser May 14 in the district semifinals.
