Fire destroys power pole in Moses Lake

| May 15, 2009 9:00 PM

MOSES LAKE — A power pole burned into two pieces after a transformer exploded on West Lakeside Drive in Moses Lake Wednesday night.

The Moses Lake Fire Department attempted to put the fire out but it continued to reignite due to the live power lines, said Fire Chief Tom Taylor.

Sparks were visible as the pole continued to smolder, according to a Moses Lake police record.

Grant County Pubic Utility District personnel also responded to the scene. They instructed neighborhood residents to turn off their breakers and stay indoors while they dismantled the transformer and replaced the pole.
