Othello to pay trash increase

OTHELLO — Othello City Council unanimously approved to pay for a garbage rate increase rather than pass it onto rate payers Monday.

The city contracts with Consolidated Disposal Services Inc., for garbage pickup. The disposal service is imposing a 2.15 percent rate increase that will begin July 16. Annually, the percentage equates to a total increase of $8,600.

City Administrator Ehman Sheldon said the increase will be funded from the solid waste fund.

The current average residential rate for a 90 gallon garbage bin is $15.07 per month.
