Othello's Guzman named soccer co-MVP

COLUMBIA BASIN — Othello junior forward B.G. Guzman led the Columbia Basin in All-Central Washington Athletic Conference (CWAC) selections Wednesday when he was named the conference’s co-Most Valuable Player.

Guzman, who led the CWAC in scoring this season with 16 goals, shared the award with Prosser senior Alberto Quinones.

Conference champion Othello, Quincy and Prosser led the nominations with six all-conference players apiece. The Huskies led the way with three first-team selections in Guzman, senior defender Estevan Miron, and senior goalie Erik Suarez. Junior Andrew Mendoza and freshman Jorge Campos were second-team selections, and sophomore Oscar Peña was an honorable mention forward.

Quincy had two first-team selections in junior midfielder Juan Romero and junior forward Raul Serrano. Senior Rafael Delgado, sophomore Cody Beaumont, and junior Luis Sorto were second-team picks. Manual Hernandez was named to honorable mention for the Jacks.

The Ephrata Tigers had two all-conference selections. Senior Dan Helsley was chosen a second-team midfielder pick and senior Jordan Hurst was named honorable mention goalie.
