MOSES LAKE — With the 2009 Babe Ruth World Series less than four months away, the World Series Task Force assembled Wednesday night to discuss the August tournament.

The financial state of the World Series is secure, said Babe Ruth World Series Tournament co-Director and Task Force Chairman Randy Boruff.

“Within two weeks we will have approximately $60,000 in the (bank),” he said. “We still owe Babe Ruth $20,000 of the $40,000 to host the tournament.”

While corporate sponsorships donations are coming in, Babe Ruth World Series Tournament co-Director Kerry Garbe said advertising space in the World Series program is still available.

“We are selling space for the program until (this summer),” he said.

In addition to program advertising, participant housing is still a priority for the task force, Boruff said.

“We are one team short,” he said. “We still need seven or eight homes.”

The World Series tournament is approximately 14 weeks away and members of the task force are looking for volunteers to make the event a success, Boruff said.

“We are going to need help in all facets of this,” he said. “We need to recruit people to help us out.”

The Babe Ruth World Series Task Force will meet again May 27 at 7 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express on East Kittelson in Moses Lake.
