MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake Chiefs moved into a three-way tie for first place in the Columbia Basin Big Nine’s Columbia Division Friday with a doubleheader sweep of the West Valley Rams.

Moses Lake junior pitcher Karly Stoltman threw a three-hitter in a 7-1 game one win and pitcher Taylor Richardson held the Rams to just one run in game two’s 2-1 win as the Chiefs improved to 12-6 overall with the sweep.

Stoltman struck out 11 batters in the first game of the doubleheader and Lacey Padilla and Shelby Gonzales helped lift the Chiefs’ offense to the victory. Padilla went 2-for-4 in game one with a double and two RBIs and Gonzales had an RBI double for the Chiefs.

Moses Lake’s sweep of West Valley set up a three-way tie atop the Columbia Division with one day left in the regular season.

The Chiefs are tied with Southridge and Kennewick for the division’s top spot.

The Chiefs travel to Sunnyside Tuesday afternoon while Southridge will square off with Pasco,  and Kennewick will meet up with Wenatchee.

If Moses Lake is able to sweep Sunnyside, the Chiefs would wrap up second place. The Chiefs need to sweep Sunnyside and have Pasco knock off Southridge to give Moses Lake a shot at the division’s top seed.

Columbia-Burbank 14-13, Royal 4-7

ROYAL CITY — The Royal Knights tried to rally late in both games of their doubleheader with Columbia-Burbank Saturday, but the Coyotes held on to sweep the Knights.

The Coyotes capitalized on five Royal errors in game one and six errors in game two to earn the sweep.

Tawny Gonzales helped lead the Knights in game one going 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs.

Columbia-Burbank jumped on the Knights with six runs in the first inning of game two and seven runs in the second inning to jump out to an early 13-3 lead. The Knights added three runs in the fourth and another in the seventh to cut the deficit to 13-7 but the Coyotes held on for the victory in game two.

Warden 28-22, Wahluke 0-1

MATTAWA, Wash. — Warden left no doubt in their doubleheader sweep over the Wahluke Warriors Saturday as the Cougars cruised to a pair of South Central Athletic Conference softball victories.

Warden dominated the first game and junior pitcher Randi Wright controlled the Warriors at the plate as the Cougars cruised to a 28-0 victory.

Warden combined for 21 hits and Wright kept the Warriors hitless throughout the contest.

Cassandra Kisler led the Cougars at the plate with a 4-for-5 performance and Amanda Martinez went 2-for-3 in game one.

Warden scored in every inning of game one and the Cougars continued to pour it on Wahluke in the second game of the doubleheader.

Wahluke was unable to keep the Cougars off of the scoreboard in the second game and Warden pitcher Jenny Guerra threw a one-hitter. Warden cruised to a 22-1 victory in game two. Guerra went 4-for-5 at the plate with three RBIs and she struck out eight.
