EPHRATA — The Ephrata Tigers continued their dominating run through the Central Washington Athletic Conference (CWAC) baseball schedule Saturday when they cruised to a pair of 11-1 victories over Grandview.

After the Greyhounds managed to keep the Tigers off of the scoreboard during the first inning at Ephrata’s Johnson-O’Brien Stadium, Grandview couldn’t keep Ephrata off of it in the second.

The first place Tigers exploded for nine second-inning runs on their way to a 9-0 lead after two innings of play before Grandview denied Ephrata a shut out in the top of the third. The Greyhounds snuck a run by Ephrata starting pitcher Mason Lotz to cut the Ephrata lead to 9-1.

Following a scoreless fourth inning, Ephrata scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth to secure the 10-run mercy-rule win for Ephrata. Ephrata’s Bryce Todd had a triple and an RBI for Ephrata and Mason Lotz went 2-for-2 and knocked in a run for the Tigers. The Tigers scored 11 runs on seven hits and committed no errors in game one and Ephrata improved to 5-0 this season, 4-0 in CWAC play.

After surrendering a run in the top of the first inning of game two, Ephrata starting pitcher Bryce Todd settled down and relied on a potent Tigers offense and Ephrata cruised to the 11-1 CWAC victory in game two of Saturday’s double header.

Grandview took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Tigers responded with a run of their own in the home-half of the inning for a 1-1 tie.

Todd kept the Greyhounds off of the scoreboard the rest of the way and the Ephrata offense came alive in the first three innings of the game two victory.

Ephrata scored seven runs in the bottom of the second and added three more in the third to take a 10-run lead after three innings. Neither the Greyhounds nor the Tigers scored the rest of the way and Ephrata knocked off Grandview in another mercy-rule shortened game. Ephrata senior Brett Robinson finished the day 3-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs while Tyson Hubbard knocked in a double for the Tigers.

Hubbard also had 3 RBIs for the Tigers and for the second consecutive game Ephrata scored 11 runs on seven hits without committing an error to improve to 6-0 this season and 5-0 in CWAC play.

Selah 17, Othello 1

OTHELLO — Selah scored runs in every inning of Saturday’s CWAC doubleheader with the Othello Huskies to cruise to a 17-1 win.

The Huskies surrendered two runs in each of the first two innings and the Vikings never looked back in game one.

Othello managed just one run on three hits and Othello errors doomed the Huskies.

Othello head coach Larry Gonzalez said conditions during Saturday’s game were miserable.

“It was ugly,” he said. “The weather was ugly and the game was ugly.”

Although Othello dropped game one, Inclement weather forced game two to be postponed. Othello and Selah will make up game two this afternoon at 2 p.m. in Othello.

Quincy 14-11, Wapato 7-12

QUINCY — The Quincy baseball team jumped on the Wapato Wolves early in game one of Saturday’s CWAC doubleheader and the Jackrabbits never looked back on their way to a 14-7 victory.

The Jacks got off to a quick start with six first-inning runs. Wapato responded in the bottom of the first with a pair of their own to cut the Quincy lead to 6-2.

Despite committing six errors in game one of the doubleheader, Quincy held Wapato to just seven runs on eight hits. The Jackrabbits scored 14 runs on 12 hits.

Quincy scored a single run in the third and added three in the fourth for a 10-2 lead. Wapato responded with a run in the fifth and Quincy jumped on the Wolves for four runs in the sixth for a 14-3 lead.

With the Jacks looking for a mercy-rule victory, the Wolves scratched out three runs in the bottom of the sixth to push the game to seven innings before Quincy held on for a 14-7 victory.

After taking a victory from the Wolves during the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader, Quincy faltered in the second game.

Wapato took advantage of seven Quincy errors as the Wolves overcame another six-run inning by the Jackrabbits. The Wolves took a 2-0 lead after one inning before Quincy scored six in the second for a 6-2 lead.

The Wolves scored 12 runs on 12 hits to sneak past the Jackrabbits and Quincy and Wapato split Saturday’s conference doubleheader.
