Warden seeks public input on city plan

WARDEN — Warden is looking for input from residents about their city.

The city is holding public hearings as part of updating its comprehensive plan. The plan will cover everything from parks to utilities.

The city council recently passed a schedule for public input, which will include a community visioning meeting, two public hearings and mailings to encourage written comment and participation in the meetings.

The first meeting is set for 7 p.m. on April 23 at Warden City Hall.

Darryl Piercy, who is creating the plan, said the goal of the meeting is hear from community members what issues they see facing the city for the next 20 years.

“So, I’m going to go through an exercise of asking them what issues they think are facing the community, what strengths the community has, how those strengths can be utilized to meet those challenges,” he said.

Piercy said they would also like to put together a wish list of what residents would like to see in the city.

“By bringing all of that together we’ll create a vision statement,” he said. “It’s kind of this cornerstone of all of the policy decisions and directions that move forward from there.”

At this point in the process, there is no limit to what can be brought forward by residents, Piercy said.

“By having this input, it will help the council make those determinations,” he said.

The public hearings which follow the consultants will present what they heard from the vision meeting.

“Right now, it’s here’s — all the ideas out here — Then you boil all of those down, massage them a little bit and get them into some kind of form and then you present those to the community and say, ‘Here’s what we heard, here’s how it looks on paper and did we hit the mark or were we four miles off?’”
