Othello Huskies dominate Grandview

GRANDVIEW, Wash. — The Othello girls softball team began the defense of their 2008 state championship Saturday in convincing fashion with a doubleheader sweep of the Grandview Greyhounds Saturday.

Othello’s Eden Garza led the Huskies, going 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of triples and 3 RBIs to help lift Othello to a game one victory.

The Huskies jumped on the Greyhounds early with a pair of runs in the second to take a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the first inning.

Grandview was unable to respond and Othello added five additional runs in the second inning to take a 7-0 lead after just two innings.

The Greyhounds managed to keep the Huskies off of the scoreboard in the third inning, but Othello managed to score runs in each the fourth and fifth innings.

However, Grandview managed to score a pair of runs in each the fourth and fifth innings as well as Othello took a 13-4 lead into the top of the sixth inning.

The sixth inning was all Othello as the Huskies scored six runs to take a 19-4 lead into the bottom of the sixth. Grandview was unable to respond in the home-half of the inning and Othello earned the mercy-rule victory over their Central Washington Athletic Conference rivals to improve to 1-0 in league play and 1-0 overall.

Othello’s Breanna Montemayor added two RBIs for the Huskies in the first game and Othello capitalized on 11 Grandview errors.

The Othello girls softball team continued their Central Washington Athletic Conference dominance with a 10-2 win over the Grandview Greyhounds in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader.

The Huskies again jumped on the Greyhounds early with three runs in the top of the first inning to take a 3-0 lead over Grandview.

The Greyhounds responded with a run in the bottom of the first to trim the Othello advantage to 3-1.

The Huskies added another run in the top of the second to reclaim the three-run advantage at 4-1.

Grandview scored another run in the bottom of the second inning to pull within 4-2.

Othello and Grandview kept each other off the scoreboard for three innings before the Huskies exploded for five runs in the top of the sixth for a 9-2 lead late in the contest.

The Huskies added another in the top of the seventh to push Othello to a 10-2 win as the Huskies improved to 2-0 overall and 2-0 in Central Washington Athletic Conference play.

Girls Softball

Warden 11-12, Chelan 0-5

CHELAN, Wash. — The Warden Cougars girls softball team returned home from a doubleheader with the Chelan Goats Saturday afternoon with a two-game sweep on the road.

Warden’s Randi Wright led the Cougars on the mound with 25 strikeouts in two games

Wright also led the Cougars at the plate, going 4-for-8 Saturday, with 5 RBIs.

Cassandra Kisler also had a solid performance at the plate for Warden. Kisler went 5-for-8 during the doubleheader sweep over Chelan.
