YAKIMA, Wash. — The Ephrata Tigers boys baseball team kicked off Central Washington Athletic Conference (CWAC) competition Saturday with a pair of dominating victories over the East Valley Red Devils in Yakima.

The Tigers dominated the Red Devils in game one for a 23-11 victory. Ephrata managed to dismantle East Valley thanks in part to a solid performance at the plate from senior Brett Gray.

Gray went 3-for-5 during the Tigers’ game-one victory, grabbing 4 RBIs in the process.

Ephrata managed to capitalize on six East Valley errors as the Tigers improved to 1-0 overall and 1-0 in CWAC play.

The Tigers managed to score a pair of runs in the top of the first inning before the Red Devils rallied for a pair in the bottom of the first for a 2-2 tie after one inning.

Ephrata scored six runs in the top of the second and six more in the top of the fourth to take a 14-5 lead.

After going scoreless in both the fifth and sixth innings, Ephrata exploded onto the scoreboard for nine runs in the top of the seventh to take a 23-6 lead.

East Valley rallied for five in the bottom of the inning, but Ephrata held on.

Ephrata remained perfect in CWAC play with a 14-4 mercy-rule victory over the Red Devils in the second game of the doubleheader.

Ephrata continued to pour it on against East Valley in the second game, taking a commanding 14-4 lead into the bottom of the fifth inning.

The Tigers kept the Red Devils off of the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth to record the 10-run mercy-rule victory.

Seniors Brett Gray and Eric Tinnell each hit home runs for the Tigers while driving in a pair of RBIs for Ephrata.
