Carolyn Winder

Carolyn Winder, 72, died Friday, March 20, 2009, in Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee.

She was born Aug. 9, 1936, in Las Vegas, Nev., to LaRue and Wanda (Cooper) Barnum, the oldest of nine children.

Carolyn married Dewain Winder on Sept. 23, 1954, in the Cardston Alberta Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She faithfully served in the primary organization of the church for many, many years, and along with her husband Dewain, served as missionaries to the Royal Spanish Branch.

She will be remembered for her selfless community service, serving others and her family. She loved sewing, baking, and will be remembered for her cinnamon rolls. She worked for 30 years in the Royal School District and retired five years ago. She dearly loved her family and friends, and her smile will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Dewain Winder of Royal City; children Dan (Barbara) Winder of Basin City, Wash.; Colleen Hampton of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Dee (Lori) Winder of Ogden, Utah; Sheri (Dennis) Smith of Royal City; Teri (William) Smith of Las Vegas, Nev.; Cindy (Mario) Padilla of Moses Lake; Patti Jo (Bill) Dougherty of Pueblo, Colo.; her father LaRue Barnum of Logandale, Nev.; siblings Larry (Mary) Barnum of Logandale, Nev.; Max (Connie) Barnum of Payson, Utah; Susan (Bob) Dixon of St. Louis, Mo.; Roger (Karen) Barnum of Warden; Anita (Keith) Hill of Riverton, Utah; David (Mary Ann) Barnum of San Pedro, Calif.; Dorothy (Lynn) Eppich of Basin City, Wash.; and Don (Angie) Barnum of Vancouver, Wash.; 32 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Viewing will be held Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., at Grape Street Chapel, Moses Lake. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, in the Royal Camp Building of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Royal Camp. Burial and concluding services will immediately follow in Royal Memorial Gardens, Royal City.

Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to the Missionary Fund in Carolyn’s memory. Carolyn’s family has asked Carver Family Funeral Home, Moses Lake to care for arrangements.
