Georgetta G. Draper

Georgetta G. Draper, 90, passed away in Kennewick, Wash., on March 11, 2009.

She was born in Baltimore, Md., on April 26, 1918, to Lewis A. and Amelia B. Glantz.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Paul and husband R. G. “Jim” Draper.

Georgetta worked at Montgomery Wards in Baltimore for many years until she met Jim while he was attending Officers Candidate School at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland. After Jim’s honorable discharge from the U.S. Army Air Corp, they were married in San Diego, Calif., in March of 1946 and moved to Aberdeen, Wash., where Jim worked in the family lumber company.

In 1955, they moved to Soap Lake, where they were owners and operators of Tumwata Lodge and Patti-O-Park until 1971, when they moved to McConihe Flats in Moses Lake. When Georgetta’s husband passed away in April of 1999, she moved to Kennewick to be closer to her youngest daughter, Patricia.

Georgetta worked at DSHS in Ephrata and Moses Lake until she retired in 1985. She loved working in the garden, especially tending to her roses and working on her many craft projects like ceramics, knitting and sewing. They enjoyed their many trips in their RV during their retirement.

Georgetta is survived by her three daughters, Teresa (Bill) Steel, Greenwater, Wash., Virginia Lamb, Roy, Wash., and Patricia (Rick) Sunford, Kennewick, Wash. She also has three grandchildren, Michael Lamb, Jason Steel and Stacie Steel, along with three great-grandchildren.

Fern Hill Cemetery in Aberdeen is where Georgetta’s ashes will be inurned in the family plot next to her husband. Memorial services will be scheduled at a later date.
