Moses Lake's Redal named Player of the Week

LYNCHBURG, Va — After helping the Liberty University Flames to a 3-1 record last week, Moses Lake native and Liberty junior Curran Redal was named the Big South Conference’s Player of the Week.

Redal finished the week going 5-for-10 with a .684 on-base percentage. The junior knocked in seven runs during the week, including a home run in Liberty’s 6-3 win over Duke March 10.

Although Redal knew he had performed well during the week, he was shocked to hear of the award, he said.

“It was a surprise,” he said. “My dad called me before I even saw the headline (on the school’s Web site).”

With solid performances at the plate last week, Redal extended his hitting streak to 10 games.

While Redal is honored to be named player of the week, he is humbled by the selection.

“It’s a pretty big deal,” he said. “There are a lot of good teams and a lot of good players in our league. It was surprising to hear they selected me.”

The Liberty Flames are 10-4 this season and Redal said his player of the week selection is a credit to his teammates.

“It shows that our team is being recognized for what we’ve done,” he said. “As a team we are trying to win a Big South title. It’s nice to see we are being recognized.”

Redal, who graduated from Moses Lake High School in 2006, said he chose Liberty University after a successful sophomore season at Wenatchee Valley Community College last year.

“It is kind of a weird story,” he said. “I was a first team NWAAC selection my sophomore year. (Liberty) came out to watch the (NWAAC All-Star game) and the guy they had wasn’t working out. They came out in the spring, talked to me and offered me a scholarship.”
