Dona M. Kirby

Dona M. Kirby went home to be with her Lord and Savior on March 11, 2009, surrounded by her family.

She was born on Nov. 6, 1921, in Great Falls, Mont., to Gus and Luella Hively.

In 1943, Dona met the love of her life, Burdette Kirby. They were married May 22, 1943, while Burdette was still in the Navy. Together they had two children, Ted and Kay. Dona and Kirby spent 64 years together. They enjoyed traveling together in their motor home around the U.S. and also the trips with Sandy Sams.

Having lived in Moses Lake for over 50 years, Dona made many lasting friendships. Dona’s friends were all very special people in her life.

Dona is survived by her daughter, Kay and husband Chep, of Kennewick, Wash.; three grandchildren Kym (Brian) Blazer, Drex (Kris) Gauntt and Jana (Derek) Lechelt; five great-grandchildren, Brennan and Taylor Blazer, Shanna Lechelt, Stephen and Lindsay Gauntt, that she cherished; and sister, Marion Holmes.

Dona was preceded in death by her husband, Kirby, in 2007 and son, Ted, in 1999.

A memorial service will be held at the Moses Lake United Methodist Church, 746 Ironwood Drive, on Wednesday at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Moses Lake United Methodist Church or a charity of your choice.
