EPHRATA — An Odessa man died in a two-vehicle collision on state Route 28, three miles southwest of Ephrata, Friday.

Rex Emanual Gibson, 77, was pronounced dead at the scene, the Washington State Patrol reported.

Gibson was on the westbound shoulder of the highway in a 2005 Dodge Caravan, the state patrol reported. He allegedly attempted to make a left turn from the shoulder toward Road E Northwest.

When he attempted the turn, he collided with an oncoming westbound vehicle.

The oncoming vehicle was a 2001 Kenworth dump truck driven by Timothy Paul Harris, 58, Quincy.

Harris was not injured.

Lila L. Cranston, 66, Ephrata, was a passenger in the Dodge Caravan. She was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center for treatment for a possible broken pelvis and injured ribs, the state patrol reported.

The cause of the collision was allegedly due to Gibson failing to yield the right-of-way to oncoming traffic, the state patrol reported.

The Dodge Caravan was totaled and towed from the scene. The dump truck had approximately $20,000 worth of damages and was towed from the scene.
