| March 13, 2009 9:00 PM

Jeanette Lois Reiman Fread, 77, or Soap Lake, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and sister-in-law, passed away peacefully, held in the arms of Our Lord and greeted at Heaven’s gate by her husband Chuck and many family and friends who had passed before her, on Saturday, March 7, 2009, in Soap Lake.

Jeanette, better known to family and friends as Jan, was born on May 6, 1931, in Dryden, Wash., to Emanuel and Lydia Reiman and is a direct descendent of the Germans from Russia.

She was raised in the Dryden-Cashmere, Wash., area, attending schools in Winton and Dryden. As a small child, she, her parents and siblings would drive to Quincy to visit with relatives that lived in the current historic Reiman-Simmons home.

In February of 1953, Jan married Charles (Chuck) Fread in East Wenatchee, Wash. They and their children lived in the Moses Lake-Quincy area before moving to Soap Lake.

Jan’s greatest loves were her husband, Chuck; children, Linda and husband Bob Long of Spokane, Bill and wife Beth Fread of Wassila, Alaska, Debbie and husband Steve Clark of Las Vegas, Nev., Cindy and husband John Smith; her grandchildren, Brent and Heath Alvarez, Michele and Ricky Anderson, William (Billy) Fread Jr., Jennifer Clark, Sara Likes, Andy, Jenny, Matthew and Bethany Smith; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She enjoyed traveling the United States with her husband, Chuck, and two dogs, Bojo and Teddy, in their retirement years, camping, trips to the Pacific coast and the occasional trip to her favorite casinos.

Jan loved to cook and there was nothing better than her apricot kuchen, coleslaw, pot road and chocolate cookies.

She was a board member of the Soap Lake Education Foundation and Soap Lake Senior Center, where she served as a cook and cashier for many years, and a member of the Soap Lake Garden Club and Sun Lakes Rebekah Lodge No. 329.

Jan was preceded in death by her husband, Chuck; daughter, Shelia; great-granddaughter, Brittany; sisters, Anne, Elsie and Helen; and brother, Bill.

In addition to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she is survived by a brother, Marvin and wife Lovene Reiman; brother-in-law, Kenneth Worden; brother-in-law, Wayne and wife Molly Fread; and multiple nieces and nephews.

An open house to celebrate Jan’s life will be held at the Soap Lake Senior Center, 121 Second Ave. S.E., from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Her children and grandchildren welcome one and all to join them and perhaps share in memories of their mother and grandmother.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Soap Lake Education Foundation, P.O. Box 161, Soap Lake, WA 98851.

Jan will be laid to rest at Valley View Memorial Park in Soap Lake in a private ceremony with family.
